After a vote on Expansion of the city’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Sanford City Councilman Charles Taylor was removed from his role as council liaison to the board and the number of members was reduced from three to five.

Taylor, who represents a district that covers the northern part of the city limits, had opposed the expansion when it was brought up at a City Council workshop in early June. Taylor told Councilman Walter Ferguson – who made the proposal – that he should have spoken to Taylor about it first because he was the liaison.

When the council voted on the issue a week later, Taylor did not comment. He and Councilwoman Jean Dabbs were the only ones to vote against the expansion. The vote added radio host Margaret Murchison, Sanford attorney and former councilman Chas Post and Southern Lee High School instructor Jan Tart to the ABC board, which oversees the state’s ABC system locally.

Sanford Mayor Rebecca Wyhof Salmon said The tirade On Tuesday, she announced that she had made the decision to replace Taylor as liaison to City Councilor Mark Akinosho “to ensure a smooth and productive start of the new board.”

The council’s liaisons with local committees and commissions are at the discretion of the mayor.

“The real main role of a liaison officer is to establish a communication link with the council,” she said.
