The Lions Club of Los Gatos awards scholarships to local students

Lions Club Scholars
The Los Gatos Lions Club awarded $11,000 in scholarships to 10 Los Gatos High School seniors earlier this month. Adam Minyard and Sarah Drabkin won scholarships established in memory of Los Gatos High football coach Charlie Wedemeyer, and Lucia Greenland received a scholarship named in honor of the late principal Ted Simonson. Amanda Kapok received the Destro Scholarship, which is for a student pursuing a career in medicine or nursing.
Liam Amburgey, Natalie Lane, Rachel Steohens, Dana Hathaway, Claire Galbo and Ruah Flynn received general scholarships at the club meeting on June 12.
New HR Manager
City Manager Laurel Prevetti has named Cheryl Parkman as Los Gatos’ new human resources director. Parkman will begin her employment with the city on July 8.
Parkman grew up in Los Gatos and brings over 14 years of experience in local government to her hometown. She began her career as an administrative assistant for the city before working in various capacities for the City of San Jose, most recently as the Assistant to the City Manager in the role of Employee Relations Manager.
“Ms. Parkman demonstrated a deep understanding of Los Gatos, the breadth of the human resources profession and the ability to partner with our high-performing team of employees,” Prevetti said in a press release.
Summer Reading Challenge
The Los Gatos Library Summer Reading Contest has begun. Participants can log their reading online and have the opportunity to win prizes and participate in events.
Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge is open until July 31. Interested participants can register at https://www.losgatosca.gov/2828/Los-Gatos-Public-Library.
The library’s Chartreuse Caboose Bookmobile will be at Town Plaza Park on July 9 and 24 to hand out prizes and accept in-person registrations for the Reading Challenge.
