  • “I am heartbroken,” she wrote.

Last week, Kiefer Sutherland announced via X that his father, Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland, had died. He was 88 years old. The post received hundreds of thousands of responses in memory of the late actor, one of which was from Sutherland’s Klute Co-star Jane Fonda. In her own moving Instagram post, she remembered Donald and the memories they shared.

“I am stunned to hear that Donald Sutherland has died. He was my fascinating co-star in Klute and we loved working together,” Fonda wrote under a photo of Donald on set. “Donald was a brilliant actor and a complex human being who shared many adventures with me, such as the FTA Show, an anti-Vietnam War tour that featured 60,000 active duty soldiers, sailors and Marines in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines and Japan in 1971. I am heartbroken.”

Fans commented on the shared art and mourned with the Grace and Frankie Star. “One of my absolute favorite movies, you two were so beautiful together,” one person commented. “May the wonderful memories of your time with him bring you comfort ❤️,” another person added. “My condolences for your loss and the many hours, he was truly one of a kind 🙌,” someone else wrote.

In Kiefer’s post, he shared a black-and-white portrait of himself as a child with his father. “It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” he wrote. “Personally, I consider him to be one of the most important actors in film history. He was never discouraged by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved and you can never ask for more than that. A fulfilling life.” Donald starred in many successful films, including classic television series MASH, Ordinary people, The hunger Games film trilogy and more.

In a follow-up statement, Creative Artists Agency announced the cause of death. “Acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland died today in Miami, Florida, after a long illness,” the statement said, according to NBC News. No further details about his death were released.

Our thoughts are with Donald’s family, friends and fans during this difficult time.
