Sister of Hamas leader Haniyeh killed in Israeli attack on Gaza

Thirteen Palestinians were killed on Tuesday, including the sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, when Israel bombed the family’s home in the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City.

Witnesses reported to the Anadolu According to a news agency, Israeli aircraft completely destroyed the Haniyeh family home, killing 10 family members. The death toll was later raised to 13.

Further Israeli attacks targeted other parts of the Shati refugee camp, including two schools used as emergency shelters in the Al-Daraj area of ​​the Gaza Strip. Anadolu reported, with even more people losing their lives.

Civil defense teams searched the ruins of the bombed house for survivors on Tuesday. One of the dead was identified as Zuhur Abdul Salam Haniyeh, the sister of Ismail Haniyeh.

The Israeli army claimed it had “bombed two houses used by Hamas elements” without mentioning Haniyeh’s family.

On April 10, another Israeli attack killed three of Haniyeh’s sons – Hazem, Amir and Muhammad – and several of his grandchildren as they drove inside the camp.

Haniyeh’s eldest grandson Jamal and his youngest granddaughter Rua Humam were killed in Israeli airstrikes in November.

Another of Haniyeh’s sisters, Sabah, who is an Israeli citizen and lives in Beersheba, was arrested by Israel on April 21 but was later released and placed under house arrest.

Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, lives in exile in Qatar.

Israel’s war on Gaza has left over 37,600 people dead, mostly women and children, and over 85,000 others injured. The area has been devastated by Israel’s indiscriminate attacks targeting residential areas, schools, hospitals and other civilian facilities.
