Candlelight Concerts series planned for Thursday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND – Lino Rivera will perform at the Candlelight Concerts series on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The series at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St., will also be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9 and streamed at www.trinity umcpt.org.

Admission to the concert is free, but a donation of $15 per person is requested.

The program includes selected pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Schumann and Debussy that illustrate the theme of contrasts: light and darkness, intense and ethereal, serious and parodistic.

Half of the donations benefit YeaMusic, which provides musical opportunities for the youth of East Jefferson County, including instruments, lessons and performances.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Participants are advised to wear a mask on site.

Rivera was born in the Philippines and now lives in the Bay Area, where he is a professor of music at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, California.

Rivera has performed as a solo recitalist, concert soloist, chamber musician and accompanist on three continents.

He holds degrees in piano from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and the University of Hawaii, and a doctorate from the University of Maryland.
