Chris Evans (Captain America) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) will collaborate on a new film.

According to Deadline, the duo will star in the action film “Sacrifice,” which marks the English-language film debut of director Romain Gavras.

“A high-profile charity gala is stormed by a violent group of radicals on a mystical quest to fulfill a prophecy,” says the film’s official logline.

Taylor-Joy plays the passionate villain, while Evans plays the movie star she wants to kill.

The blockbuster, which is said to feature a similarly “explosive” and “driving anarchy” as Gavras’ Netflix thriller “Athena”, will also star Salma Hayek-Pinault from “Black Mirror” and Brendan Fraser from “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

Filming is scheduled to begin in September, with further castings to be announced shortly.

In addition to directing, Gavras also co-wrote the screenplay with Will Arbery of Succession. The script was reportedly so compelling that the lead actors signed it just four days after receiving it.

Speaking to Deadline about the upcoming film, Gavras detailed the process behind writing the script, explaining that he incorporated elements of Greek mythology into the plot.

“It came from a very simple idea, which is that every time you go to events like this, whether it’s Cannes, whether it’s a charity event where all these people are there, my mischievous side comes out and I think the audience watching these events also want something to go terribly wrong,” he said.

“When you see dazzling people and all the glitz and all that stuff, you want that moment to be twisted, right?”

He continued: “I grew up with Greek mythology. Instead of watching new movies as a child, my parents told me these Greek stories where a mother eats her children and where sacrifices are made to volcanoes.

“These things fed me and led me to the idea of creating a group of kids who have a very specific agenda that comes from a very mythological belief system.

“There’s a penchant for satire and Will is amazed by the sharpness of the characters’ tone and their humanity. I’m so excited about our cast.”

There is no release date for “Sacrifice” yet.
