Billy Ray Cyrus has hit back after his estranged wife Firerose accused him of psychologically abusing her.

The country singer’s legal team responded to the allegations by presenting evidence of text messages and communications she sent him after filing for divorce, which show she was trying to save the marriage.

Firerose’s claims “are particularly confusing and questionable in their credibility given that she begged Cyrus to forgive her and take her back just two days after he filed for divorce,” representatives for Billy Ray Cyrus said in a statement to DailyMail.com on Tuesday.

DailyMail.com has obtained a copy of a lawsuit filed by Cyrus’ lawyers in Williamson County, Tennessee, court on Monday.

Excerpts from the court filing include a screenshot of a text message and an image of a handwritten note that Firerose, 35, wrote to Cyrus, 62, days after he filed for divorce on May 23 after about seven months of marriage.

In both the text and the note, Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges, seems to be trying to save the relationship under difficult circumstances for which she provided no concrete examples.

Billy Ray Cyrus’ camp has responded to claims by his estranged wife Firerose, 35, that the 62-year-old country singer psychologically abused her. The estranged couple were photographed in Nashville in August 2023.
Firerose said she was “so sorry” to Cyrus in a handwritten note she wrote days after he filed for divorce on May 23.

Cyrus’ reps said the handwritten note – in which she “expressed her love and desire to be with the Achy Breaky Heart singer” – was written by Firerose and left for Cyrus after she vacated her former home under court order.

The note read: “I miss you more than I can express, baby. Please let’s work this out and let this hellish experience bring us nothing but closer together. I need you. I love you. I’m so sorry.”

Cyrus’ reps said Firerose wrote a long text message that “clearly speaks for itself” – saying she wanted to make peace with him and was very upset about their relationship problems.

“If Cyrus was truly guilty of the allegations (Firerose) makes in her pleadings, then it is unfathomable to attempt to explain why she wanted to return to him,” the representatives said. “Moreover, she begged him to give her a chance to explain everything.”

“I’m listening to you, baby,” she said. “I love you. I don’t want us to be fighting on opposite sides in a war that no one can win.”

“I will do what you tell me because you promised me that we could talk after I left and I trust you. I pray from the bottom of my heart that we will meet again today.”

Firerose continued, “I feel completely lost and miss you more than I can explain. And you will know that I am listening to you and showing you through my actions. We need to be kind and loving to each other no matter what.”

In Cyrus’s lawsuit filed Monday, he said Firerose tried to deceive him in order to get her to marry into the famous family and boost her career.
Cyrus’ legal team said in the court filing that Cyrus trusted Firerose and “falsely believed she was an honest person.”
Cyrus’ team said Firerose misled him by telling him she had never been married, a claim made during a joint appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show last October.
Cyrus’ team said Firerose has used his American Express card 37 times since filing for divorce less than a month ago, racking up more than $96,000 in unauthorized charges.
Cyrus’ team said Firerose had waged “a campaign” to isolate him from his family and had prevented at least one of his daughters from contacting him.

“You have been my best friend in the world every day for over 4 years. 24/7. I miss you terribly. My heart is broken and I need the best friend now more than ever.”

Firerose said she has lost her appetite due to relationship problems: “I’ve lost 5 pounds since Wednesday. I just can’t eat no matter how hard I try. I don’t want to live without you.”

“Please give me a chance to make this right. I can explain everything, but I need you on my side. I need my hero back.”

Cyrus’ representatives said in the above-mentioned statement that Firerose’s decision to “fight out this seven-month marriage in front of the press… left Mr. Cyrus no choice but to set the record straight.”

The representatives pointed to the court filing Cyrus filed to “file an amended and supplementary complaint for annulment and divorce” which “sets out the details of (his) fraud allegations and evidence of (his) claims that he was defrauded in the inducement to marry Firerose.”

Firerose filed a lawsuit in Tennessee on June 14 alleging that Cyrus’ behavior was “unpredictable and erratic” and that she was “the victim of extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse.”
