SUNRISE – Even the singing of the national anthems was fiercely competitive Monday night before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers.

Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette sang “O Canada” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” to a sold-out crowd at the Amerant Bank Arena.

A loud group of Edmonton fans – several large groups of supporters formed throughout the lower area – nearly drowned out the voices of Morissette as they belted out the lyrics to the Canadian national anthem.

Panthers fans did their best to top the performance by roaring the American national anthem while a smiling Morissette delivered it into the microphone at ice level.

Morissette, who hails from Ottawa, is best known for her 1995 multiplatinum album “Jagged Little Pill.” The album included songs such as “You Oughta Know,” “All I Really Want,” and “Ironic.”

The Panthers won the first three games of the best-of-seven series, but the Oilers were able to force a decisive seventh game with three consecutive wins of their own.
