Uniontown Art Club hosts an art exhibition on its founding day

The Uniontown Art Club will again participate in the Founding Day Festival on June 29th.

The Uniontown Art Club will return for the fourth year at the Founding Day Festival on June 29th and will have a variety of artwork for sale.

Many artists also demonstrate their craft, giving buyers the opportunity to watch how the unique pieces are made, often in the same way our ancestors did.

“Some of us will be wearing colonial-era clothing because we are doing demonstrations just like they did back then,” said Pete Pasqua, treasurer of the Uniontown Art Club.

The club has a rich history, having been in existence since 1927, and brings a variety of different skills to its work, both in the shop of the art club, Gallery 86, and at festivals and events throughout the year.

There will be artists in attendance who are skilled in leather making, jewelry making, Native American beading, sculpture and photography.

“We have members demonstrating watercolor painting, weaving, pottery and wood carving,” Pasqua said. “One of our artists has an old-fashioned pottery wheel that has to be operated manually, and she often lets the kids make something themselves. They can feel the muddy clay on their hands and see what it feels like.”

Pasqua uses hand tools, chisels, knives and hammers for his woodwork and enjoys sharing his talent with passers-by.

“When you’re an artist and people walk past your tent and have a reaction, it makes you feel good. Both children and adults are often amazed and we love doing performances for the public,” Pasqua said.

To celebrate the founding of Uniontown, visitors also have the opportunity to have their photo taken with Uncle Sam and his wife.

Buyers benefit from purchasing unique products, and Pasqua said many return to a particular artist for future work or commissions.

“We’ve found that people like to buy from artists because they want to display the unique items in their home. They like to get to know us and learn the story behind the piece they’ve purchased,” Pasqua said.
