Bleacher Report pays out .8 million in class action lawsuit against VPPA

The window to file a class action lawsuit against Bleacher Report is open, and the clock is ticking to share in the payout.

The lawsuit, originally filed in January 2023, alleged that the sports news channel shared user information with Facebook without consent, violating the Video Privacy Protection Act.

Bleacher Report agreed to pay out $4.8 million to customers with accounts between January 25, 2021, and May 21, 2024, without admitting wrongdoing.

The agreement has been preliminarily approved by the Eleventh Judicial District of Miami-Dade County, but must be submitted to the court for final approval on August 8.

Here’s how you can join the class action lawsuit against Bleacher Report.

When does a Bleacher Report customer need to file a claim?

To be included in the settlement, an affected Bleacher Report customer must file a claim by August 23. Claimants will receive an equal share of the payout.

Customers can submit a claim through the comparison website.

Can a customer object to the settlement?

The customer can object to the settlement or withdraw from it. Both steps must be completed by July 9th.

To object to the settlement, a class member must file a response with the Eleventh Judicial District for Miami-Dade County and send a copy to the class’s attorney before July 9.

If the customer withdraws from the settlement or does not report his claim on time, he will not receive any payment.
