3 thoughts on two new signings for Michigan Football

The Michigan football team’s impressive recruiting streak continued Monday as two more 2025 recruits announced their commitments to the Wolverines.

First, it was four-star wide receiver Jacob Washington. The young player from Louisiana is 6’3″, weighs 180 lbs and is ranked 320th in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings.

Washington visited last weekend, and so did three-star linebacker Chase Taylor. Taylor, from Stockbridge, Georgia, is ranked No. 583 overall in the 247 Sports Class of 2025 rankings. He is 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds.

USC, Georgia Tech and South Carolina have each hosted Taylor on official visits. Mississippi State, Baylor, Missouri and Georgia Tech were among the candidates for Washington. Michigan has 12 commitments and nine of them are considered blue-chip prospects. Taylor is the only one not ranked in the top 500, and he’s just off the mark.

According to 247 Sports, UM is now ranked 15th in the team rankings and here are three thoughts on that.

The Wolverines have been interested in a number of different receivers and are expected to sign three more in the 2025 class: Andrew Marsh, Taz Williams and Phillip Wright.

Marsh is 6’1″. Taz Williams is 6’1″ and Wright is 6’1″. Washington isn’t blazing fast, but looking at the video, he reminds me of Cornelius Johnson. I don’t think he’s quite as fast, but he does a good job of getting past press coverage at the line of scrimmage.

Washington is comfortable in the middle of the field and has also been effective in jump ball situations. He is probably more of a receiver than, say, Amorion Walker. Washington is not a sprinter, but he has good hands and is someone who can repeatedly get free from the outside against press coverage.

Taylor is rated as a three-star recruit, but I loved his film. He also has nine sacks and over 140 tackles over the last two seasons. He shows the ability to cover, defend the run, and pressure the quarterback.

This makes him a perfect fit for the Michigan defense. He’s a little light at 201 pounds, but I would expect him to put on weight. It feels like he could be a three-down linebacker, but that will be hard to do unless he puts on 20-30 pounds.

Still, it’s a sub-package game and it will be fun to watch Taylor blitz from the linebacker position. He has great top end speed and I think he’s a good fit for Michigan’s style of play on defense.

Any Ohio State fans posting that Michigan is ranked 50th in recruiting or 39th in the 2025 recruiting class need to update their rankings as Michigan football is now ranked 15th in the 2025 class according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings.

According to recruiting experts, the Wolverines currently have six more recruits ahead of them. If all of those predictions come true, Michigan will have a top-10 class. It could even land in the top five.

It’s almost as if everything Ohio State fans say about Michigan is wrong. The hammer hasn’t fallen on Michigan because of the (alleged) sign-stealing scandal, and the new recruits aren’t staying away because of it. The Wolverines also didn’t experience a mass exodus, as many Ohio State fans had predicted.

The Michigan football team, under Sherrone Moore, is in an excellent position to compete for another Big Ten title not only this season, but well into the future.
