Trump expresses his “LOVE” for the Ten Commandments being forced on schools

Donald Trump was apparently full of religious zeal early Friday morning when he fired off a post in all caps expressing his support for the push to impose the Ten Commandments on public schools.

The former president’s rant on “Truth Social” came after Louisiana’s Republican governor Jeff Landry signed a law on Wednesday that requires every public classroom in the state to display a poster with the commandments. “I LOVE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND MANY OTHER PLACES TOO,” Trump wrote in his post.

Trump further urged his followers to study the commandments. “READ IT – HOW CAN WE GET WRONG AS A NATION?” he wrote. The former president’s public support for the commandments – which prohibit lying and adultery – follows his conviction last month on charges of falsifying business records after he was accused of trying to conceal a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her from speaking to him about her claims of an extramarital one-night stand.

The new law in Louisiana immediately sparked debates about the separation of church and state, and threats to challenge the rule as unconstitutional (Landry says he “can’t wait to get sued”). But Trump says the lack of religiosity isn’t limited to public schools.

“THIS COULD ACTUALLY BE THE FIRST MAJOR STEP TOWARDS THE REVIVAL OF RELIGION, WHICH IS DESPERATELY NEEDED IN OUR COUNTRY,” Trump wrote, adding, “BRING BACK TTC,” apparently referring to the initials of the “Ten Commandments.”

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee has frequently appealed to his party’s Christian right during his campaign, boasting about his role in restricting federal abortion rights and arguing that it would be “crazy” for a Christian to vote for a Democrat. In March, he also began promoting $59.99 “God Bless The USA” Bibles, which include the text of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and Pledge of Allegiance in addition to scripture.

“All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many,” Trump said in a video promoting the potentially blasphemous product. “It’s my favorite book.”
