People feel emboldened to say what they want to whoever they want, given the little anonymity that screens offer. This is nothing new for Renee. As a popular influencer, she herself was embroiled in a scandal that made her the target of online hate. “I’m used to hate. The hate doesn’t affect me,” she said, adding: “Honestly, I just feel sorry for people who are sitting on their computers or phones and can’t do anything but talk shit.”

Whatever their reasons, Brittany and Renee pay no attention to their haters. “You know, I get the most negative response out of everyone,” Brittany shared. “It is what it is. I’m a person who doesn’t give a shit about anything. I just don’t read it.” Ignoring them is the best option to some extent, as they often hope to provoke the person they’re harassing. “These days, there’s always going to be someone who hates someone. I think your haters are fans too, and at this point, it is what it is.”
