Justin Timberlake arrested for drunk driving on Long Island

NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday morning. The singer is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol on Long Island in New York state, authorities said.

Timberlake was released from custody later that morning after appearing in court in Sag Harbor on the eastern end of Long Island on a drunken driving charge. His next court date is set for July 26, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.

Timberlake’s attorney and representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press.

Sag Harbor is a coastal village in the Hamptons, about 100 miles from New York City. In the summer, it is a popular meeting place for wealthy visitors.

The young Timberlake was a Disney Mickey Mouse, whose co-stars also included his future girlfriend Britney Spears. He rose to fame in the boy band NSYNC and began a solo career in 2002. As an actor, Timberlake has found recognition in films such as “The Social Network” and “Friends with Benefits.”

He has won ten Grammy Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards.

Last year, Timberlake made headlines when Spears published her memoir, The Woman in Me, which included several chapters devoted to their relationship, including deeply personal information about pregnancy, abortion and painful separation. In March he released his first new album in six years, the nostalgic “Everything I Thought It Was”, a return to his familiar future funk sound.

Timberlake has two performances in Chicago on Friday and Saturday, and next week he has performances planned at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday and Wednesday.
