Will Smith presents his new song with a live show at the BET Awards

The next Will Smith Awards news involves a song, not a slap.

Well, maybe the song will come out… we don’t know yet.

Will Smith won’t be at the Oscars any time soon, but other venues are much more respectful.

Most people today only know Will Smith as a filmmaker and as an attractive, talented child. But he is also a musician of historical Meaning — his rap was The the first to win a Grammy.

And at the 2024 BET Awards, he will sing a new, original song.

On Sunday, June 30, Will Smith will unveil and perform his new original song at the BET Awards.

That alone would be exciting news. After all, his music is legendary and has helped him to achieve his spectacular acting career.

We don’t actually know what Smith will perform. His most recent performance was a cameo with J Balvin at Coachella in April. And that was a Men in Black Reference.

Connie Orlando, EVP of Specials, Music Programming and Music Strategy at BET, spoke with diversity about inviting Will Smith to perform.

“From his early days as a rapper to ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ to his box office success as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon and we are honored to welcome him back to the BET Awards stage,” said Orlando.

Orlando then commented: “We look forward to Will contributing to another defining night for culture that is not to be missed.”

Obviously, Will Smith’s appearance at an awards ceremony is a sensitive topic

At the 2022 Oscars, the A-list actor marched onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock.

This was not a planned action. And it was not spontaneous or out of the blue. Chris Rock had, and not for the first time, displayed an obviously unhealthy obsession with Jada Pinkett Smith. This time he made fun of her hair loss.

Reactions were divided. And despite the polarization, many people’s reactions (perhaps due to the nature of social media) seemed so extreme as to be unreasonable.

One camp compared the infamous slap in the face with Bad such as domestic violence, or the suggestion that this is random violence against comedians.

The other said that Smith had done nothing wrong and that the incident was so harmless that it was not worth commenting on.

Obviously, Smith and Rock are not family, nor are they in a relationship. Nor are they strangers to each other. These were two extremely famous adult millionaires who had known each other for decades. But let’s be clear: punching someone in the face is assault. Even with possible verbal provocation.

Is this a career comeback?

Well… no. This is not a comeback because his career is going well.

In the same month as the BET Awards, Bad Boys: Ride or Die was released in theaters and grossed nine figures at the box office. Yes, that’s the movie where Will Smith gets slapped on screen.

He won’t be allowed to attend the Oscars in the next few years. But that won’t stop Smith from making extremely successful films – or music. Or attending other award ceremonies. Events where, one can only hope, his wife’s name will not be mentioned.
