Palestinians allowed to enter Israel for humanitarian reasons

Palestinians can leave the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing – for the first time since the war began, Palestinian media reported on Monday.

The border crossing takes place in coordination with COGAT staff in order to prevent the escape of wanted persons and terrorists.

Sources in the Southern Command confirmed the announcements and said this was a first step to allow Palestinian patients to travel abroad for treatment in coordination with Egypt.

Holders of special permits for humanitarian reasons can also leave the country. About two months ago, Division 162 took over the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing and prevented goods and citizens from entering and leaving the crossing.

Philadelphia Axis

In the months before, with the division’s ground maneuver in Rafah and the capture of the Philadelphia Corridor and the smuggling tunnels, news spread in the Gaza Strip that with the help of smugglers it was possible to enter Sinai for thousands of dollars per person.

Army officials said the smuggling was possible because the Israeli military did not control the Rafah and Philadelphia areas at the time.

Sources told Walla that there would be no resistance within the security system to the Palestinian withdrawal – except for the scope and the corresponding security checks.
