Wayne County man wins $6 million in Michigan lottery

Wayne County man wins million in Michigan lottery

A 32-year-old Wayne County man won $6 million playing the 500X Money Maker instant game, state authorities announced Monday.

The Wayne County player, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 37195 South Groesbeck Highway in Clinton Township, the Michigan Lottery said in a news release.

“I play the lottery every now and then and this 500X Money Maker ticket was only the second ticket I bought this year,” the player said in the statement. “I went to the store to buy a few things and saw the 500X Money Maker game, so I asked the salesperson what ticket number was on the next ticket. When she said 14, I told her I would take it because 14 is my wife and I’s lucky number.”

“I scratched the ticket and when I saw I had won $6 million I started hyperventilating! I had to take the day off work because I was in shock. I texted my wife and said, ‘Lucky number 14.’ She jokingly replied, ‘What do you mean? Are we millionaires?’ As soon as I got home I told her the big news!”

The Wayne County man recently visited lottery headquarters to claim his top prize: a one-time payment of about $4.1 million. He plans to use his winnings to invest, help his family and start a business, officials said Monday.

“Congratulations to the lucky player and his wife on an incredible $6 million win,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said in the press release. “It is incredibly exciting to bring life-changing moments to our players and I hope this prize continues to have a positive impact on this player and his family for years to come.”

Players have won more than $165 million on the “500X Money Maker,” which launched in September.

Each $50 ticket gives players a chance to win prizes ranging from $75 to $6 million. According to the Michigan Lottery, there are more than $157 million worth of prizes still up for grabs, including a $6 million grand prize, 16 $50,000 prizes and 280 $5,000 prizes.

In 2023, lottery players won nearly $1.8 billion in instant games, which can be purchased at 10,500 retailers across the state.

This man’s latest win follows other big prizes in recent months.

Last week, officials announced that another man had won $7 million, the largest prize on the Michigan Lottery website.

This month, it was announced that a central Michigan lottery club won a Powerball jackpot of $842.4 million.
