Chris Evans is one of Marvel’s most popular stars. Although he was initially hesitant to take on the role of the titular hero Captain America in the MCU, the actor’s portrayal will remain legendary and irreplaceable. Even after his exit from the franchise in 2019, theories about his time continue to circulate online.

Recently, a new fan theory surfaced online (via Instagram) focusing on his fight with the mighty Titan Thanos in Wakanda, and it may be too hard to swallow. According to the fan theory, during their fight in Wakanda, Avengers: Infinity WarCaptain America tries to stop Thanos from snapping his fingers and tries to keep his hand open.

In this particular scene, one can notice that none of the Infinity Stones light up, which shocks Thanos. This could be because Rogers is more worthy than Thanos and the stones recognize him as such. Therefore, Thanos has to physically knock him away in order to use the Infinity Gauntlet.

We know that Captain America is, next to Thor, the most worthy of all the Avengers. Even in Avengers: Age of Ultron he manages to move Thor’s Mjolnir before finally throwing the weapon into Avengers: EndgameAlthough this theory is most likely true, not all Marvel fans believe it.

Marvel fans don’t believe Captain America is worth more than Thanos’ theory

The MCU makes it clear in several films that Thanos has to snap his fingers to use the Infinity Gauntlet. Even in Finaleach Avenger tries to stop Thanos from snapping his fingers during the big fight. In line with the fan theory mentioned above, it’s possible that Thanos was more surprised by Captain America’s strength than by the “infinity stones not working.”

When the said theory went viral, Marvelholics were divided over the credibility and possibility of such a theory. This is what many of them explained in the comments section of the Instagram post containing this fan theory.

The stones don’t glow because Thanos had to close his hand to activate the stones’ powers. This was explained in the fight against Titan. -@caseysdiecast5

Cap didn’t hold him back at all, in the comics something similar happened. Steve touched the soul stone while holding the gauntlet and Thanos saw Steve’s whole life up to that point where he saw that Steve is a very honorable man and doesn’t give up easily. Now Thanos made this face because he was confused, as if Steve came running at him and actually thought he could win. -@papa_.grinch

Thanos didn’t even try. @lo_spino_nel_fianco

That’s not how the glove works. It has nothing to do with whether someone is worthy or not. -@igor1701e

He can lift Thor’s hammer because he is worthy. The glove does not have the “worthy” spell and what does worthiness have to do with strength. – @jokerjr40

The stat has nothing to do with the gauntlet. It’s all about power, it’s not something like the hammer. The gauntlet even burned half of the Hulk. So it’s too strong even for the Hulk. It also burned half of Thanos, who is considered the strongest being in the universe. The gauntlet is too strong for the Captain. I don’t think Cap can wear it. [email protected]_darkseid

And that’s what several Marvel fans said in the comments. While some also supported Captain America and considered him more worthy than Thanos, it’s also true that the Infinity Stones have little to do with “worthiness.”

As numerous fan theories about the “Golden Age of the MCU” continue to circulate, it is fascinating to see the profound impact that characters like Captain America and the entire MCU have had on fans.
