Oakland A’s News: World Series Champions Meet at Coliseum

Happy Monday, Athletics Nation!

The weekend started off promisingly. The A’s took a Twins series lead with a late comeback win on Friday and had scored five or more runs in three of their last four games. After losing four games last week in Minneapolis, the A’s were well positioned to exact revenge at the Coliseum.

Unfortunately, the bats weren’t as strong as they started the weekend. The A’s had just four hits in Saturday’s 10-2 win. Perhaps it was just as well that they saved their energy for Sunday, considering the disastrous eight-run performance in just 1⅓ innings they had on Saturday. JP Sears – his second tough attempt against the Twins in as many weeks.

The 1974 champions were on hand Sunday to reminisce about past successes and cheer the team on to victory in the series, with attendance reaching a season high.

When it happened, Pablo Lopez With his ERA of 5.63, he completely dominated the Athletics, pitching five perfect innings and finishing eight scoreless with 14 strikeouts. So much for putting on a show for the big crowd.

Of course, the unusually large crowd had come primarily to remember one of the most beautiful moments in the history of the Oakland A’s: the third consecutive victory in the World Series in 1974. MVP of the series Rollie Fingers spoke to the crowd and was accompanied by teammates Darold Knowles, David Hamilton, Ted Kubiak, Dick Green, Herb Washington, Billy North, Blue Moon Odom, Joe Rudi, Gene TenaceAnd Bert Campaneris.

With legends like these on the field, it’s hard to imagine fans being disappointed on Sunday despite the lack of attack. And the game was thankfully short at 131 minutes.

Have a great week, AN.
