Japanese teen drama series “Chastity High”: Release in August 2024 and what we know so far

The Japanese teenage love drama Chastity high will be released on Netflix in August 2024. The series stars Miakami Ai from Yu Yu Hakusho and former idol Miyase Ryubi.

Chastity high, previously known as Renai Battle Royaleis an upcoming Japanese Netflix original teen drama series co-written by Shonozaki Yuka and Shuto Rin. Three directors, Yasukawa Yuka, Matsumoto Soushi and Ota Ryo, share directing duties on the series.

What is the plot of Chastity high?

Despite her financial situation, Arisawa Yuichika’s mother enrolls her in an elite girls’ school. In her second year, the school is merged with an all-boys school for the first time. However, the school immediately issues a rule that prohibits any dating between boys and girls. Anyone caught having sexual intercourse is expelled, and when the student council begins searching for rule breakers, many female students are soon forced to leave the school.

Due to the debts left by her mother’s ex-husband, Yuichika has no choice but to work as a “love keeper.” She accepts money from strangers, but destroys all evidence of her activities or risks being expelled. Having given up on love, it is only with the arrival of new student Maki Ryogo that sparks fly and Yuichika finds the courage to sue the school and demand that the love ban be lifted.

Who are the actors of Chastity high?

So far, only two actors from Chastity high were confirmed: Miakami Ai and Miyasa Ryubi.

Mikami Ai plays the role of Arisawa Yuichika. The actress was recently seen in the live-action adaptation of Yu-Yu Hakusho as Yukina and in Trapped Lemming as Shiraishi Mieko. Outside of Netflix, she has played leading roles in dramas such as I’m a Shire Girl!, Liar: Surechigau KoiAnd Liar.

Executive producer Makiko Okano had this to say about Mikami’s casting:

“At first she had a neutral presence, but when she started acting, I was impressed by the power of her eyes. I thought she would be a perfect fit to embody the strength it takes to fight for what you want under difficult circumstances. I was also impressed by how innocent and lovable she was during an audition for a romantic scene. Both the director and I were instantly enchanted by her and we decided she just had to be our Ichica!”

Miyase Ryubi plays the role of Maki Ryogo. The actor has not yet starred in a Netflix original, but is best known for his leading roles in dramas such as Ikemen-do: Minan Gakuen MonogatariAnd Murai no Koi. He also had supporting roles in dramas such as Host: Sozoku Shichaimashita, Paripi Komei, And Night doctor.

Okano also had this to say about the casting of Ryubi:

“Maki is the complete opposite of Ichica, as he is not a typical good student. We needed an actor who could authentically portray how his character changes after he falls in love. Miyase caught our attention because he could charm audiences in a variety of roles.”
