Ptc-Fayette Pickleball Club raises $4,500 at second annual charity event to benefit Healing4Heroes

Ptc-Fayette Pickleball Club raises ,500 at second annual charity event to benefit Healing4Heroes

Pickleball players from the Fayette area gathered for a day of fun at the 2nd Annual Healing4Heroes Charity Tournament at Flat Creek Country Club on June 15. The tournament raised over $4,500 through registration fees, a raffle and member donations, all of which will be donated locally to Healing4Heroes.

Sue Reed, event organizer and treasurer/membership director of the PTC-Fayette Pickleball Club, chose H4H as a benefactor after spending time with the charity and seeing firsthand how service dogs make a difference in the lives of veterans. Healing4Heroes was founded by Piper Hill, an Army veteran and local resident who was inspired by her dog, Valentine, to help veterans live healthy, productive lives. Hill, who served for 17 years, was injured during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars when she suffered a brain injury. That injury forced her to retire from the service and wiped out three years of her life. The one thing she remembers from those three years of recovery is the fact that her dog, Valentine, never left her side. Hill trained Valentine to help with everyday challenges, such as helping with walking, climbing, and shoving obstacles. E.g. getting medication, getting up after a fall, shopping, etc. She was determined to help other veterans with the daily hardships they may have to endure.

Healing4Heroes not only helps veterans but also communities by rescuing eligible dogs from local shelters. All training costs, including food, veterinary care and housing for the dogs in training, are covered by H4H donations.
