Chris Richards now shares the private nickname that Crystal Palace players have for Marc Guehi

Chris Richards has now revealed what the Crystal Palace players call Marc Guehi behind the scenes.

Both the US and England internationals are currently travelling to major tournaments, with the Copa America and UEFA EURO 2024 already underway.

The latter in particular was on everyone’s lips after two outstanding performances against Serbia and Denmark and Real Madrid’s number 5, Jude Bellingham, heaped praise on the central defender.

Now Crystal Palace No.26 Chris Richards has shared Marc Guehi’s nickname at Selhurst Park…

What Chris Richards said about Marc Guehi

The 23-year-old obviously enjoys great respect among his colleagues at Crystal Palace.

Richards told The Athletic that he often relies on Guehi’s advice, adding that players call him “Uncle Marc” in recognition of his maturity.

The American said: “Our lockers are right next to each other, so we talk quite often. He’s a quiet guy, but I try to get a few words out of him. He’s definitely very wise for his age, so I ask him questions. We call him Uncle Marc.”

Whatever Guehi told Richards behind the scenes, it seems to be working.

The 24-year-old has undergone great development at Crystal Palace over the past twelve months, finally securing a place in the starting eleven under Oliver Glasner after struggling to do so under Patrick Vieira and Roy Hodgson.

Crystal Palace’s No. 26 could lose his defensive colleague

Richards may need to build a similarly effective relationship with new signing Chadi Riad – given the possibility of Guehi leaving SE25 this summer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United are keen to sign the Abidjan man as a replacement for Raphael Varane and are willing to include Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the deal.

There have also been rumours that Eddie Howe wants to sign Guehi – and Newcastle number 10 Anthony Gordon has already admitted that he would like to see his England teammate alongside him on Tyneside.

Hopefully the £18m man stays because if he continues to shine with England at UEFA EURO 2024, it could become too difficult to keep him in south London…
