Schedule and score for Game 3 of the Championship Series

Schedule and score for Game 3 of the Championship Series

The journey that began in February now comes down to this: a decisive third game of the College World Series.

To believe the words of Texas A&M manager Jim Schlossnagle, No. 1-ranked Tennessee and Schlossnagle’s No. 3 Aggies will “get to play” in the final game of the 2024 college baseball season on Monday, June 24 at 7 p.m. ET at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.

After trailing 1-0 in the series, the Vols won Game 2 against the Aggies the only way Tony Vitello’s team can win this postseason: with a home run. Trailing 1-0 in the seventh inning, Tennessee left fielder Dylan Dreiling slammed a two-run home run rocket into the right-field bleachers to break through the Vols’ offensive infantry. One inning later, catcher Cal Stark, who had recorded a back pick play earlier in the game, ended an 0-for-16 series at the CWS with a two-run home run of his own, giving Tennessee the eventual 4-1 victory.

Sunday’s 4-1 loss is the Aggies’ first loss in the NCAA baseball tournament, breaking a perfect 9-0 record dating back to the Bryan-College Station Regional Round. Despite the loss, Texas A&M had some highlights on Sunday, including Jace LaViolette hitting his team-best 29th home run of the season and Chris Cortez recording seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings as a relief pitcher.

History will be made in Omaha on Monday night, as neither team has won a College World Series title in their history. If the Aggies win, Texas A&M will become the first major men’s team to win a national championship since 1939. It would also be the fifth consecutive CWS title for the SEC, regardless of who actually wins.
