Borderhounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club raises ,000 for Dickinson County dive rescuers

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – During a meeting at its clubhouse, the Borderhounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) announced the impressive results of its annual fundraiser. This was the second year in a row that club members were selected to raise funds for the Dickinson County Dive Rescue Team. Over the weekend, the community came together to support the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and raised a remarkable $11,000.

Chuck “Woodchuck” Lantz, organizer of the benefit festival held last weekend at Lake Antoine Park, shared his excitement. “Looking back, I think we had a very, very successful fundraiser,” Lantz said. “We had a lot of attendees this year and a lot of sponsors. It was just a great day. A lot of money was raised for a good cause and for an underfunded program with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Dive Team.”

This year’s event included new attractions, especially for children, which contributed to its success. Lantz emphasized, “We also had some areas for children this year, so an addition to what we had last year. It’s only going to grow, and next year it’s going to be even bigger. We’re already starting to plan for next year, so get ready for June 14, 2025.”

The fundraiser benefited greatly from numerous sponsors. Lantz thanked them for their support, noting, “We had a ton of sponsors this year. We almost started in the black. A big thank you to Kenneth James Salon, Rize UP, Jake’s R&R Tires, Champion Inc., Town and Country and Paquin’s Drain Cleaning. There were so many sponsors it’s hard to list them all.”

Lantz emphasized the importance of the dive team, saying, “These divers need to get in the water urgently. None of us know when we’re going to need this rescue dive team. It costs between $6,000 and $10,000 to get a diver in the water, and that doesn’t include the command center and the other equipment above. We want to fund a lot of things, but we still need more money.”

Jeremiah ‘Daktari’ Jacobson, treasurer of the club, reflected on the success of the event as he announced the financial results. “It went really well this year. We doubled everything we did last year. This year we had over 1,000 people in attendance. Last year we were able to donate $5,250 to the dive team and this year after expenses $11,000 will go to the dive team.”

Looking ahead, Lantz encouraged everyone to mark their calendars for next year. “It takes more,” he said. “June 14, 2025, is only going to get bigger and better. We need everyone to come and enjoy the music and check out the food vendors. We already have some surprises planned for next year, so stay tuned. It’s going to be bigger and better.”

The incredible support from the community has not only raised significant funds for an important cause, but also laid the foundation for an even more successful event in 2025.
