Al Horford says love for Celtics is real in Boston – NBC Boston

Al Horford feels the love of the Celtics fans.

The C’s star attended a meet and greet at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Boylston Street in Boston on Sunday, and as he entered the store, a flood of fans lined the corner cheering him on.

Horford says he’s still reeling from the shock of winning the NBA title, and Friday’s amphibious vehicle parade still left him elated.

“The duck boat tour, the parade, the way the people presented themselves, and it wasn’t just the way they presented themselves, it was the love that the city has for the Celtics, that’s so real,” he explained. “And hearing the people fly in from different parts of the world to really be in this place, just so special, the love for the Celtics is real.”

Horford says it all became clear to him when he rounded the corner of the Causeway during the parade and saw the crowds, but he also reveals that he’s still slowly waking up and thinking, “Oh, we really are champions.”

The NBA champion went on to say that it was overwhelming to see the streets of Boston filling up with more and more people wherever he looked and that he enjoyed every minute of the rolling rally.

“I think for me it was really a validation of how real the love is here in Boston. People here really love the Celtics,” he said. “They care about representing the city of Boston.”

Big Al has said he will return next season, and he doesn’t know what made him decide that he might not come back for another year with the team.

Horford said Sunday that he would take a little time off but would then start training again in a few weeks.

“I feel good, I want to continue like this,” he said.

Horford’s teammate Jrue Holiday was at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Natick, Massachusetts on Saturday, where many fans also flocked to the C’s full of love and energy.
