Cincinnati Reds lose series, defeated by Boston Red Sox 7-4

The Cincinnati Reds lost 4-7 to the Boston Red Sox in the series finale on Sunday. It is their third defeat in a row.

The Reds fall to 36-41 while the Red Sox improve to 42-36.

Here are our findings after the game:

Problems with pitching

Lodolo has been the Reds’ best starting pitcher all season, but he wasn’t at his best Sunday afternoon. Lodolo lasted just 4 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs. He allowed five hits, walked four batters and finished the game with four strikeouts.

Buck Farmer came in to replace Lodolo and allowed one run in one inning. Brent Suter played two 1/3 innings as a reliever, but the Red Sox were able to add on when Rob Refsnyder hit a two-run home run to give them a 7-1 lead. Nick Martinez pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Good day for the offense, but not enough

The Reds offense scored four runs on ten hits, but that just wasn’t enough on a day when the Red Sox scored seven runs,

The Reds got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Elly De La Cruz hit a double into the right field wall before scoring on a single by Jeimer Candelario.

In the sixth inning, Spencer Steer scored on an RBI double off Tyler Stephenson. Santiago Espinal and Stuart Fairchild each had RBI singles later in the inning to make the game 7-4. Those were the last runs the Reds scored that day.
