At 25, Luka Doncic joins Michael Jordan in the club of the best playoff scorers!

At just 25 years old, Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic has already cemented his status as one of the best playoff offensive players in NBA history, despite yet to win a championship, and his remarkable performances were highlighted again after the NBA Finals concluded on Monday night.

According to SI.com, Luka Doncic is one of four players, along with Michael Jordan, who have scored the most points in their first 50 playoff games. With 1,546 points, Doncic is only behind Michael Jordan (1,814), Elgin Baylor (1,675) and Wilt Chamberlain (1,647) in this elite group. Most notably, Michael Jordan scored 268 more points than Doncic without relying heavily on three-point shots, making this feat even more impressive.

In his 50 playoff games, Doncic averaged 30.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. Few players in NBA history can match his offensive performance. However, Doncic has struggled on defense. Throughout the series, the Boston Celtics relentlessly targeted him, a strategy that was instrumental in their victory in the NBA Finals.

Despite the Mavericks’ loss in the 2024 NBA Finals, General Manager Nivo Harrison is confident that Doncinc will improve.

“He’s 25 years old,” Harrison told ESPN on Friday. “I think when he goes through the Finals and sees what he has to do to be at his best in the Finals after having a grueling end to the year and then three tough, tough (playoff) games, you’re going to see the best version of him.”
