Michigan expands 2025 recruiting class with commitment of 4-star running back

The Michigan football program appears to have its running back duo in the 2025 recruiting class.

Donovan Johnson, the four-star IMG Academy prospect from Bradenton, Florida, committed to the Wolverines on Sunday in a social media post following an official visit to Ann Arbor over the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound player is the second running back signed this cycle, joining Jasper Parker, the three-star prospect from Archbishop Shaw of Marrero, Louisiana, who committed on June 15.

The pair marks the first two recruiting wins for new running backs coach Tony Alford, who spent the last nine years at Ohio State. Johnson is the No. 232 player overall and No. 16 running back nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He has 29 offers and chose Michigan over other notable programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida State, Texas A&M and LSU.

Before his junior season, Johnson was rated as a top-100 prospect, but missed all of 2023 due to a knee injury. He is also a track and field athlete and plays for one of the best high school programs in the country.

Other current and former Wolverines attending the IMG include JJ McCarthy, Cesar Ruiz, Keon Sabb, Greg Crippen and DJ Turner.
