Love has led us through challenges and triumphs

Mumbai: “We are now husband and wife,” longtime actor couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal said on Sunday after their private ceremony in the presence of family and close friends. Sonakshi, 37, and Zaheer, 35, were married in a civil ceremony at the “Heeramandi” star’s apartment in Bandra West overlooking the sea and with the blessings of their families and “our two gods.”

In a joint Instagram post, the newlyweds shared the news of their wedding.

“On this day seven years ago (June 23, 2017), we saw love in its purest form in each other’s eyes and resolved to hold on to it.

“Today, that love has taken us through all the challenges and triumphs… to this moment… where, with the blessings of both our families and our two Gods… we are now husband and wife. Here’s to love, hope and all that is beautiful together, from now until eternity,” the couple wrote under their wedding photos.

The bride and groom both dressed in ivory: Sonakshi wore a sari while Zaheer wore a kurta-pyjama.

Sonakshi’s “Heeramandi” co-star Aditi Rao Hydari attended the ceremony along with her fiancé, actor Siddharth, and her actor boyfriend Huma Qureshi.

The newlywed couple will later host a reception for friends and industry colleagues at a gourmet restaurant in Worli.

Sweets were distributed to the media representatives stationed in front of the reception venue.

“Thank you for showering us with so much love, happiness and kindness on the most important day of our lives! Your support and wishes mean the world to us,” read a message from Sonakshi and Zaheer.

Although there was no official confirmation from the couple, rumors about their wedding first started circulating on social media earlier this month.

While Sonakshi was last seen in the Netflix series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”, in which she played the dual role of Rehaana and Fareedan, Zaheer made a special appearance in the action film “Ruslaan”.

Sonakshi and Zaheer first collaborated for the music video of the song “Blockbuster,” which was released in September 2022. Months later, they starred together in the comedy-drama series “Double XL.”

The duo has not publicly confirmed their relationship but has often been spotted at events and social gatherings together. From attending each other’s birthday parties to award shows to diving in on vacations, Sonakshi and Zaheer often gave their fans and followers on social media a glimpse into their lives.
