The General Overseer of Christ Embassy Church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, explained that the fire incident at the church headquarters was not an accident but a path to bigger and better things.

He reported that during the 2021 Ikeja Cantonment bombing, the church building vibrated so much that he thought it would collapse, but it did not.

The pastor mentioned that steps had been taken to call in engineers to assess the situation and that it had been confirmed that the building was in a stable condition.

Pastor Chris stated that he was not saddened by the incident, but that he and his congregation would build a bigger church to honor God.

“Nothing happens by chance in the life of a child of God. During the Ikeja Cantonment bombing in 2001, the building vibrated so much that we thought it was going to collapse. I figured if it collapsed, I would build a bigger, better one. At the end of the day, it did not collapse and we called the engineers to see if there was a need to demolish it and rebuild it, but it was still OK.

“After this is done, we will build a bigger, better and more glorious one and the devil will lick his wounds,” he said during a live-streamed Sunday service at the church’s campsite in Asese, which was covered by Nigeria’s Vanguard Newspaper.

This came after a fire ravaged the headquarters of Christ Embassy Church in Oregun District of Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigerian media outlet Channels Television reported.

According to the media outlet, eyewitnesses confirmed the unfortunate incident, adding that several videos were also posted on social media showing the destruction of the huge building by the fire.

They added that the fire broke out early Sunday and caused significant damage to church property and sent shockwaves throughout the immediate community and beyond.

At the time of this report, Lagos Fire Service men were already on the scene to rescue the situation. No fatalities were reported.
