Donald Sutherland is remembered by other stars even after his death at the age of 88.

Sutherland’s ex and former co-star Jane Fonda paid tribute to the legendary actor, who appeared in over 200 films and television shows. Fonda wrote on Instagram that she was “stunned to hear of the passing of Donald Sutherland.”

“Donald was a brilliant actor and a complex man who shared many adventures with me, such as the FTA Show, an anti-Vietnam War tour in which he performed for 60,000 active duty soldiers, sailors and Marines in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines and Japan in 1971. I am heartbroken,” Fonda wrote in the heartfelt Instagram post.

The couple’s film relationship developed into a romantic one for a time in the 1970s after Fonda and Sutherland starred in the 1971 film “Klute.” She called the actor a “fascinating co-star” and said they “loved working together.”

The versatile Canadian actor’s extensive career has included a wide range of roles, from the role of authority-hating surgeon Hawkeye Pierce in the film “M*A*S*H” to the authoritarian villain President Snow in the “Hunger Games” series.

On Instagram, Sutherland’s “M*A*S*H” co-star Elliot Gould paid tribute to his “dear, dear, kind friend,” writing that the “Hunger Games” star was “a giant, not just physically but talented. He was also enormously kind and generous.”

“Donald and I both had sons born just a week apart. We were both young fathers at the same time,” Gould continued, adding, “It’s never easy to lose such a great person and actor as Donald Sutherland, but this loss really hurts deeply because Donald was like my brother and a huge part of my own career.”

Billy Baldwin remembers Donald Sutherland as “complex, complicated and quirky”

Actor William “Billy” Baldwin also paid tribute to his former co-star in a long X-post, recalling working with the actor in two films, “Backdraft” and “Virus,” as well as in the television series “Dirty, Sexy, Money.”

“Donald was a complex, complicated and most deliciously quirky man. He had a gentle, childlike, boyish streak that I absolutely adored,” wrote Baldwin. “His persona on the screen and his persona in life were as interesting and original as his features…need I say more? He was a true original.”

Baldwin called Sutherland “unique” and said he had “never known anyone even remotely like him. His many incredible qualities and somehow even his faults made him more unique, more charming… more lovable.”
