Russian airstrike on Kiev injures two people and damages buildings – World News

According to Reuters, Russia launched an airstrike on Kyiv and the surrounding region early Sunday morning, triggering Ukrainian air defense systems that repelled the attacks, according to statements made by the mayor of the Ukrainian capital and the Kyiv regional administration on the messaging app Telegram.

Reuters witnesses reported hearing several explosions in Kiev and the surrounding area, indicating that air defense systems were intercepting incoming weapons.

The head of the Kyiv region state administration reported that two people were injured and numerous residential houses and other buildings were damaged in the night missile attack. According to the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, three missiles were fired by Russia, with Ukrainian air defense systems successfully destroying two of them over Kyiv region. Oleshchuk did not disclose details about the fate of the third missile.

The debris also caused damage to six multi-story residential buildings and over 20 private homes. A gas station, a pharmacy, an administrative building and three cars were also damaged.

The airstrike warnings were in effect for Kyiv, the surrounding region and several other areas in Ukraine for about an hour, starting at 4:50 a.m. local time (01:50 GMT). Reuters witnesses noted that the sounds of explosions during this time appeared to come from air defense systems trying to intercept air forces.
