ERA NOW hosts ‘Women Strike Back’ rally on anniversary of Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS – The Equal Rights Association (ERA NOW) will host a “Women Strike Back” rally in conjunction with the National Women’s Strike on Monday, June 24 – the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

According to a June 17 press release from ERA NOW, the nationwide event encourages women to strike their daily duties such as work, housework and spending money.

These laws are intended to highlight the influence of women on the economy, their households and society as a whole and to draw attention to the inequalities they face on a daily basis, the press release states.

ERA NOW was founded after the 2016 elections. In 2019, the organization was officially recognized as a nonprofit organization. The organization’s mission is to stand up and advocate for equal rights for all, the press release states.

The nonprofit’s event, a “happy, women-focused rally,” is free, open to all and will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in Independence Park. There will be speakers, merchandise, conversations and a call to action.

Participants are asked to wear red clothing and carry red signs in solidarity with the National Women’s Strike, the press release states.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
