Two fans struck by lightning at the 2024 PGA Tour Travelers Championship

The third round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, was suspended at 3:30 p.m. ET due to hazardous weather conditions – the final group of Tom Kim and Collin Morikawa had already completed six holes when the horn sounded.

During the delay, two people were struck by lightning near the tournament. According to Current page: on X/Twitter, both people are conscious and awake and have been taken to hospital.

Media were told the tournament would not resume until 5:30-6:00 p.m. ET. The PGA Tour wants to play golf on Saturday so that Sunday will be a shorter day for players – this is the third event in a series of signature events, major championships and signature events.

Story update at 6:35 p.m. ET: Jason Brade, fire chief of Cromwell, Connecticut, issued the following statement on the situation.

On June 22, 2024, at approximately 4:26 p.m., Cromwell Police received multiple emergency calls regarding a lightning strike in the area of ​​6 Pierson Green. Police, fire and EMS responded to the scene within minutes. Upon arrival, EMS personnel found a tree struck by lightning and three patients near the strike. EMS personnel treated two patients who were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation and one patient who refused treatment. All remaining police, fire and EMS units cleared the scene.

The address is that of a house behind the fifth green of TPC River Highlands.
