Joey Essex’s Love Island 2024 rap flops with islanders and viewers

Love Island Spoilers follow.

Love Island rarely disappoints with some excruciating performances during the annual talent show, and Joey Essex continued the trend when his rap flopped with both co-stars and viewers.

This annual tradition sees the remaining islanders gather around the fire pit and showcase some of their talents, with the quality on display often varying from the sublime to the absurd.

This year’s edition was similar, with Jessy taking home the crown after her performance on stilts on Tuesday’s episode (July 23). It was a different story for Joey, however, whose rap and closing remarks didn’t get the reception expected.

After his rarely on-beat rap about the other islanders, Joey referenced his recent secret mission for Mimii, ending with, “When I say secret, you say mission. Secret!”

The joke fell flat, Joey was met with a deafening silence and the star remarked: “Well, that didn’t go down well, did it?” Matilda, grinning, also joked about the situation, saying she had crashed like a “lead balloon”.

Viewers at home weren’t impressed by the number either. The show’s official social media accounts even poked fun at the incident on X/Twitter, writing: “And the crowd is getting soft! #LoveIsland”

“Look around you guys mute #LoveIsland,” one fan remarked, while another, referring to former Islander Whitney Adebayo, quipped: “It’s utter chaos #LoveIsland”

“He is comedy gold. I can’t handle the guy,” wrote a third fan, with a fourth adding, “The silence was LOUD omds #loveIsand.” “I’m ashamed of him shake my head,” wrote another viewer, with a sixth quipping, “A true example of knowing when to quit.”

The talent show is one of the Islanders’ last events of the series before the grand finale. Producers recently announced that the final part of season 11 will air on Monday, July 29.

Love Island will be broadcast on ITV2 and streamed on ITVX.
