Doraemon voice actress Noriko Ohara has died

The voice actress Noriko Ohara died on July 12, 2024. She was the voice actress for Nobita from Doraemon and Doronjo from Yatterman. (Thanks, Game Watch!)

81 Produce announced on July 23, 2024 that she died on July 12, 2024. At the time of her death, she was 88 years old. According to 81 Produce, she was in the hospital for an unspecified illness. However, the medication did not help her and she died on July 12, 2024. At the request of her relatives, her funeral was held in a private setting.

Ohara lent her voice to many older anime, making her a familiar character for those familiar with shows like Doraemon or Urusei YatsuraHer best known roles include Nobita Nobi from the 1979 version of DoraemonOyuki from the 1981 version of Urusei YatsuraPeter in Alpine girl Heidiand all female villains in the Time Bokan Series (including Yatterman).

Other major deaths from the world of Japanese anime and manga in 2024 include those of Akira Toriyama and TARAKO. Toriyama was the creator of the Dragon Ball series, as well as the character designer for the Dragon Quest series. Meanwhile, TARAKO was a voice actress, whose best known role was Maruko from Chibi Maruko-chan.
