Suki Waterhouse’s “Supersad” is basically a 90s song

Musician and versatile artist Suki Waterhouse has announced the release of their new 18-track double album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, due out in September. The album opens with “Supersad,” which is bursting with energy thanks to fast-paced drum fills and garage guitars.

“I tried to write a ’90s song that you could hear in the mall in Clueless or as the opening credits for Legally Blonde,” Suki explains with a smile. The song was produced by Brad Cook and executive produced by Eli Hirsch. Suki co-wrote it with Chelsea Balan, John Mark Nelson and Lilian Caputo.

Accompanying the single is the official video, which stars Suki as both the bedridden protagonist and her quirky game show fairy godmother. The video was created by filmmaker and long-time collaborator Émilie Richard-Froozan.

The album loosely revolves around the transformative concept of Glitter muffin Spider. Suki explains that she “came across the Sparklemuffin – who is wildly colored, does this dazzling dance, and whose partner cannibalizes him if he doesn’t approve of the dance. It’s a metaphor for the dance of life that we’re all in. The title struck me as hilarious, ridiculous, and wonderful.”
