Places & Spaces launches video series about Los Alamos

Places & Spaces, in partnership with the Los Alamos Daily Post, has launched a video series focusing on Los Alamos and White Rock. The program consists of short episodes with first-hand information from the owners and leaders of places and spaces important to the life of the local community. Some episodes showcase the work and projects of places and spaces. Others are used for panel discussions to explore relevant topics. Short video content submitted by users is welcome and will be moderated for the series.

Places & Spaces is a local 501c3 community development organization led by longtime resident Kevin Holsapple.

“Places & Spaces is producing this video series to help increase the community’s understanding of places and spaces that are important to our local lives,” said Holsapple.The series will be streamed live if possible and made available as a recording on demand on the YouTube channel “Places & Spaces”.

Each episode is hosted and focuses on an issue or opportunity related to a place or space being explored. Some episodes feature the host and interviewee speaking remotely. Other episodes and panel discussions are conducted in a studio setting.

The mission of Places & Spaces is to support the creation, improvement and activation of Places and spaces for community in Los Alamos County. The content is selected to support this mission.

The first episode of this series focuses on the Co-op Park, a private park for public use at 1010 Central Ave. in downtown Los Alamos. In a 12-minute conversation, CEO Matt Schmidt of Los Alamos Schools Credit Union discusses the work to create the park, the nearly completed work on the second phase of the park, how community members can use the park and how the public can support the project.

Goals of the series:

  • Deepen understanding and appreciation: Promote a deeper understanding and Appreciation for the role that places and spaces play in our community life, and the status, possibilities and ongoing development of places and spaces.
  • Stimulate conversations: Promote meaningful conversations between residents and Community leaders about the problems and opportunities associated with these places and Spaces that promote a collaborative and forward-thinking approach to the community Future.
  • Connect the community: Connect residents, stakeholders and prospects in Los Alamos by creating a platform for sharing stories, experiences and ideas.
  • Celebrate Los Alamos: Celebrate the spirit of creativity, innovation, resilience and Collaboration that characterizes the Los Alamos community.
    Episodes on the topic “Places & Spaces”: Discuss the possibilities, status, history, design, Functionality, meaning and/or impact of places and spaces that exist or could exist in the community.
  • Episodes about people who deal with places and spaces: Interview with residents, companies People, experts and stakeholders who shape and are shaped by our places and spaces.

About Kevin Holsapple:

Kevin Holsapple holds an MBA and is a certified business analyst. He retired as CEO of the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) after serving the organization for more than 15 years. His experience at LACDC included founding, building the first building and operating the Los Alamos Research Park, leading the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Small Business Development Center, leading the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce, serving as President of Los Alamos MainStreet, initiating the Los Alamos Creative District, leading tourism efforts for the Los Alamos Meeting and Visitor Bureau, initiating the first co-working space in the Los Alamos area, leading the Coronado Ventures Forum (a regional group supporting technology-based business startups), leading the New Mexico Chamber Executives Association, leading Leadership New Mexico and many more local and regional economic development activities.
