Kamala Harris leaves campaign headquarters with the singer’s blessing for Beyoncé’s “Freedom”

Kamala Harris walked to Beyoncé’s “Freedom” during her first official visit to campaign headquarters.

On Monday evening (July 22), the vice president addressed the nation at her organization’s headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. CNN Beyoncé reportedly immediately agreed to the campaign’s request to use “Freedom” just hours before Kamala Harris performed the song.

Last year, Beyoncé gave Harris tickets to her concert in Maryland, and the singer’s mother, Tina Knowles, endorsed Harris after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday (July 21).

“New, youthful, sharp, energy!!!!” Knowles said of Harris in an Instagram post. “You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country! He put aside his personal ego, power and fame. That is the definition of a great leader. Thank you President Biden for your service and leadership. Keep up the good work Vice President Kamala Harris as President. Here we go.”

In her speech to her campaign staff, Kamala Harris said it was her “intention to earn and win this nomination.” She also pointed to her background as California’s attorney general and as a prosecutor in the courtroom.

“In these roles, I’ve taken on all kinds of offenders,” she said. “Sex offenders who have abused women. Con artists who have defrauded consumers. Fraudsters who have broken the rules for their own benefit. So listen to me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type.”

Harris continued: “Our campaign has always revolved around two different versions of what we see as the future of our country. Donald Trump wants to take our country back to a time when many of our fellow Americans did not yet have full freedoms and rights. But we believe in a better future where there is room for all Americans.”
