Michigan authorities seek clues after family of four injured in hit-and-run

(CBS-DETROIT) – Authorities in southeast Michigan are asking the public for information after a family was injured in a hit-and-run crash while driving home from a camping trip, officials said.

The incident occurred at 5 p.m. Saturday on southbound US-23, south of Highland Road in Livingston County.

According to the sheriff’s office, a small, gray compact sedan was traveling south on US-23 and attempted to pass a pickup truck pulling a travel trailer that was traveling in the left lane on the left shoulder.

The pickup truck attempted to move into the right lane to avoid the sedan, but the sedan veered into the left lane and struck the driver’s side of the front of the truck.

According to authorities, the sedan continued driving while the truck rolled down the embankment.

The occupants of the truck, a family of four returning home from a camping trip, suffered minor injuries. They were rescued at the scene of the accident.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Livingston County Deputy Uzoni at 517-546-4842.
