The 1st hole of the Pittsburgh Field Club highlights the topography of Western Pennsylvania | The Elite 18

FOX CHAPEL, Pa. (KDKA) – The opening hole at Pittsburgh Field Club is unique and showcases the best aspects of Pittsburgh’s topography when it comes to golf.

“It really encompasses the whole club,” said Head Golf Professional Chris Sheehan.

From the first tee box you have a beautiful view and can see 17 holes of the club grounds.

“It’s just a beautiful starting hole,” Sheehan said.

While many people don’t like the prospect of starting their round with a long par 4, the 1st hole at Field Club initially heads downhill, making the length of the hole seem shorter than it actually is.

Although the hole may seem tempting at first glance, a look back at the tee box from the fairway can show how difficult and dangerous the tee shot was.

“It presents a lot of difficulties,” Sheehan said. “Especially on the tee and the second shot uphill. And it’s a difficult green to putt on. It’s really a challenging opening hole, but the club prides itself on it.”

The 1st hole at Field Club is one of many on the course that offers incredible views of the historic clubhouse at the top of the hill and is definitely one of the best opening holes in the Pittsburgh area.
