Renee Blair is pregnant! Country singer expecting baby with husband Jordan Schmidt (exclusive)

The “Holy Cowboy” singer spoke to PEOPLE ahead of her performance at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards

Country singer Renee Blair is about to take on a new role in her life.

The “Holy Cowboy” singer exclusively reveals to PEOPLE that she is pregnant and expecting her first baby with her husband, music producer Jordan Schmidt.

“If I’ve learned anything about life so far, it’s to expect the unexpected!” she tells PEOPLE. “We got married and got pregnant, all in the same breath, it seemed.”

Blair and Schmidt married in Nashville last year after five years together. And while they didn’t plan on getting pregnant right away, it’s all the more special because Blair will be showing off her baby bump at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Thursday.

“I was originally hoping to get pregnant right now, in May 2023, on our honeymoon in Italy – which has now been postponed for two wonderful reasons: the pregnancy and because Mom and Dad are nominated for ACM Song of the Year for co-writing Hardy’s song ‘The Last Man.’ Waiting in the truck,” She says.

She adds: “I am so excited to be nominated for my first ACM with my husband and to one day be able to show our son that we thrived and lived life to the fullest while he was growing in my belly!”

Schmidt echoes the same sentiment, saying, “I am so excited to share this moment with my wife and our unborn child, and I can’t wait for the day when we can show him pictures from the 58th ACMs!”

Blair continues: “We kept the news a secret from the public on social media – I’ve been touring for the past few months and have just released the first single (‘Holy Cowboy’) from my new album. Hillbettywhich comes out later this year, and I was hesitant about going when I found out I was pregnant.”

“But when I saw Rihanna show off her baby bump at the Super Bowl, it inspired me to do the same thing every night in front of my audience, and it made for a very special moment with the audience,” she adds.

At the 58th Annual ACM Awards, Blair wore a Versace ensemble for the red carpet debut of her alter ego Hillbetty, along with makeup by Annetta McBain and hair by Marissa Martin.

Schmidt chose a tailored blazer, a necklace by David Yurman and a monogrammed belt from Planet Cowboy in Nashville.

The 58th Academy of Country Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Thursday, May 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT and will be live streamed exclusively on Prime Video.
