Residents affected by the water shutdown express their opinion on Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A town hall meeting is scheduled for Wednesday in a Bakersfield neighborhood that was left without water just before the hottest days of the summer.

The town hall meeting is scheduled for July 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Shirley Lane Elementary School, 6714 Shirley Ln.

More than 200 households in the Weedpatch, Fairfax and Shirley Lane areas have been without water since the weekend of June 21, forcing residents to rely on hoses and water bottles.

Victory Mutual Water Company water wells were shut down and the East Niles Community Services District stepped in to provide water to residents.

The water supply was subsequently restored and residents were given a boil water notice, which has since been lifted.

One resident said she still doesn’t drink the water.

“I don’t think so. It’s not there yet,” said resident Daisy Guillen. “I just want the water to be safe for all of us. For our children, you know. For our dogs too. Our animals. That’s what I’m more concerned about.”

On June 28, the Kern County Health Department declared the water safe to drink, but many residents are still boiling their water.
