Oklahoma completes its portal purchase with Glenn Taylor from St.John’s

Oklahoma has been an active participant in the NCAA transfer portal this spring and summer, and as the start of the 2024-2025 season draws ever closer, the Sooners are still adding to their roster.

Over the weekend, news emerged from the Oklahoma basketball program that JUCO transfer Jeff Nwankwo tore his Achilles tendon during summer practice and has already undergone surgery. He will unfortunately miss the entire upcoming season.

To replace the athletic Nwankwo, the Sooners signed forward Glenn Taylor Jr. from St. John’s on Monday. Taylor is a 6-foot-6 rising senior originally from Las Vegas. He averaged 4.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for the Red Storm this season. Taylor began his career at Oregon State and played his first two seasons in the Pacific Northwest.

Taylor’s strength lies on defense, where he can defend multiple positions along the perimeter. He is also a more than capable three-point shooter, hitting 45 percent of his shots from the field, including 42 percent from the three-point line.

He fits the mold of a three-and-D wing perfectly. He is superbly athletic and rushes to the basket, hitting 46% of his shots last season. His 10% assist rate last year is an underrated aspect of his game. He regularly made the extra pass and fit seamlessly into any offense without being a primary ball handler or play initiator.

Taylor is the seventh transfer portal signing for the Sooners this offseason. Oklahoma’s roster is officially complete for 2024-2025 and the Sooners are ready to hit the ground running in their first season in the SEC.
