On her channel, YouTuber sistapam shared footage of Jackson being asked a question by a fan at a recent convention alongside Skeet Ulrich and Jamie Kennedy. When Jackson was asked which Scream movie was his favorite, he replied:

Number 7 because that means I’m still working.

How did Roger L. Jackson come to lend his voice to Ghostface in the 1996 original?

Roger L. Jackson had just finished one of his first big jobs in Hollywood, working for Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks. Jackson voiced the translator who translates the aliens’ language into English, and that role led to an audition for the 1996 original Scream Film. First Drew Barrymore wanted an actor to play the iconic killer in the opening sequence with herinstead of just having a script reader read the lines. The plan was to simply replace Jackson’s voice with the preferred one. Roger L. Jackson played the killer with such effective menace that Wes Craven decided to keep his voice and he was hired to officially become Ghostface.and the rest is history.

Jackson was on set when the scene was filmed and spoke the killer’s lines while hiding off-screen as Barrymore reacted. However, Jackson never met Barrymore, who portrayed Ghostface’s victim Casey Becker, and Wes Craven decided to keep it that way when it came to Neve Campbell and the rest of the cast interacting with Ghostface’s voice actor. Craven suspected that it would be scarier and lead to a better outcome if the actor providing the voice was not seen. He was right.

Many years later, Roger L. Jackson had still not met the actors he terrorized as the voice of Ghostface in the Scream films.
