“We didn’t want it to end”

David Henrie teases the Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel series and his reunion with Selena Gomez.

In a new interview, Henrie revealed details about her collaboration with Gomez, ten years after the original series concluded with a television movie on the Disney Channel.

“It was great. We didn’t want it to end. It was great,” said Henrie We weekly in an interview. “She is so good. She has such a quick mind that has only gotten stronger.”

Henrie and Gomez will reprise their roles as Justin and Alex Russo in the sequel series, tentatively titled wizard.

“We have some scenes that I think will take the breath away for the original fans of the original series. They’re really touching and really well done, so I’m excited for you to see them,” Henrie revealed.

In the sequel series, adult Justin Russo (Henrie) has chosen to live a normal, mortal life with his family Giada (Mimi Gianopulos), Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko). When Justin’s sister Alex (Gomez) brings Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) to her home to seek help, Justin realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the apprentice wizard while also fulfilling his everyday duties – and securing the future of the wizarding world.

The father of the Russo children, Jerry Russo, played by David DeLuise, will reprise his role in the sequel series.

“It’s been a pleasure,” said Henrie. “And we hope we can all be back for the whole run of the show, and if I have my way, as often as possible, because they’re just such a wonderful addition.”

Henrie said that fans will have to tune into the show to find out how his character lost his powers, as it “may or may not have happened against his will.” In addition, he said that the “new cast is really, really talented,” noting that his “goal is to restore the heart of the original show so that everyone can watch it and say, ‘This is wizard. That feels like the themes, the values, the world, the comedy. That is wizard.”
