Police report reveals details of pending case against Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor

PEMBROKE PINES, Florida. – New York Giants star Lawrence Taylor, a Hall of Fame member and registered sex offender, told a Pembroke Pines police officer he couldn’t go home because of a restraining order, records show.

According to the Pembroke Pines Police Department incident report, Officer Jesus Pinzon conducted an investigation and concluded that the 65-year-old former NFL linebacker had not lived there in years.

Pinzon reported that he had a face-to-face meeting with Taylor on July 3 at the Grand Palms Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, 110 Grand Palms Drive, in Pembroke Pines.

“He had been staying at the Grand Palms Resort with his girlfriend for the past few days because his wife had obtained a restraining order against him,” Pinzon wrote, according to the report.

According to records, the Virginia-born, two-time Super Bowl winner has been married to his third wife, Lynette Taylor, since 2007, and there is a history of domestic violence between the two.

In 2009, Taylor was arrested for hit-and-run. He has been registered as a sex offender since March 22, 2011, after being convicted of sex crimes against a 16-year-old girl in Rockland, New York.

In 2017, Taylor was arrested for drunk driving after colliding with a parked police car. His registration status with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement requires him to report any changes to his residence.

In 2021, Taylor had a similar case when he blamed his relationship problems for failing to report a change of residence. Pinzon claimed this was his second violation.

“Taylor advised that he had been served with the restraining order the week before and that he was not allowed to come within 500 feet of his residence,” Pinzon wrote.

Pinzon believes he was away from home for years, not just days. According to his report, a domestic violence incident involving Taylor’s wife and girlfriend occurred at the home on February 29.

A police body-worn camera recording shows Taylor told a police officer who arrived on February 29 that he had only come to drop off a check and that he had been living with his girlfriend for over two years.

In the video, Pinzon said, a Pembroke Pines police officer asked, “Do you live at that house?” Taylor replied, “No!” and told him he lived at Grand Palms.

According to the report, a police body-worn camera also showed Taylor’s wife telling a police officer on May 15 that her “estranged husband” was living at the Grand Palms with his mistress.

Taylor’s wife allegedly told Pinzon on July 5 that she had changed the locks on the house on June 15 and that he had not lived there for about three years. On July 8, a judge issued an arrest warrant.

Records show Taylor registered in Palm Beach County on July 11 and turned himself in to Broward Sheriff’s Office correctional officers on July 18. He was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a third-degree felony. He pleaded not guilty and was released without bail.
