McDonald’s will extend its $5 meal promotion beyond its initial four-week period in most U.S. markets after the company saw an increase in customer traffic.

According to a memo seen by CNBC and Reuters, McDonald’s executives said 93 percent of restaurants voted to extend the promotion beyond the original end date, which was scheduled for the end of this month.

At some locations the campaign runs until the end of August, for others no end date has yet been set.

Since June 25, customers across the country can choose between a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, small fries, 4 Chicken McNuggets and a small soft drink – all for just $5 or $6.

The $5 option gives customers a McChicken sandwich, small fries, 4 Chicken McNuggets and a small soft drink.

The $6 option gives customers a McDouble, small portions of fries, 4 Chicken McNuggets and a small soft drink.

The extension of the promotion comes at a time when other fast-food chains continue to offer cheap menus in the hope of attracting more customers in light of the increased prices of dining out.
