Daisy Edgar-Jones’ famous father revealed: Star gets ‘insight’ into television at a young age

Daisy Edgar Jones’ father warned her about the dangers of life after fame. The Normal People star previously revealed how her father’s career gave her insight into the world of television

Daisy’s father was even awarded an OBE for his career in the entertainment industry

Daisy Edgar-Jones’ famous father urged her to “keep a clear head” after her success.

The 26-year-old Normal People star has already been nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe – and her father Philip, who is head of entertainment at Sky and director of Sky Arts, knows her success in the industry.

Before joining Sky, Philip was responsible for numerous reality TV shows including Big Brother, which was awarded an OBE last year for his contribution to the arts and television industry. His other credits include Wild Things, Portrait Artist of the Year, The Priory, The Jack Docherty Show, The Big Breakfast, The Word and The Sunday Show.

The Under the Banner of Heaven actress previously revealed that her father’s role on Big Brother gave him “really good insight” into sudden fame and that he even gave her “the talk of doom” and explained to her what to expect when she reached the top.

Speaking to Porter in 2020, Daisy said: “My dad had a really good understanding of how to deal with a kind of spotlight. He gave me the ‘downfall talk’ as he called it, which they used to do with Big Brother contestants where they would give you a lecture about what it was like to be famous.”

She added: “He was good at saying, ‘Keep your head level, stay grounded and don’t get too carried away with anything. You are still yourself and you haven’t changed, even though the people around you may have.'”

Philip’s speech will come as a benefit to his daughter, who has had a crazy few years in terms of fame. After her role as Marianne in Sally Rooney’s BBC Three miniseries – which received much acclaim – Daisy has built a very impressive career.

Although Daisy has tried to keep her family life out of the spotlight, the Crawdads Song actress previously described herself as “really lucky” to have grown up in an artistic household, and previously told the Sydney Morning Herald how her family encouraged her to become an actor.
