Toby Maguire’s ex-wife Jennifer Meyer has attributed her amicable divorce from the Spider-Man star to the “angel” Gwyneth Paltrow.

Paltrow, 51, was widely ridiculed when she announced her divorce from Coldplay star Chris Martin, 47, in 2014 as a “conscious separation” – but Meyer, 47, said the actress’s amicable split helped her cope with her own divorce from Maguire, 49, in 2020.

On Monday’s Broad Ideas podcast, jewelry designer Meyer said, “Just as Tobey and I were breaking up, I was watching what Gwyneth Paltrow was doing with Chris – this deliberate breakup that everyone was making fun of.”

“I witnessed it first hand and it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen between two people. She was so loving and kind and open to him and she created this family.

“I thought, ‘Wow, this is not what I was taught growing up. I was taught that divorce was an ugly thing… a bad thing and that nothing good would ever come of it.'”

Meyer asked Paltrow, “How did you do this? Please, what do you want me to do? Because we’re just starting to separate and it feels very scary. … How do we come together for these people that we both created and that we love? What do we do?”

Meyer added that Paltrow introduced her to Dr. Habib Sadeghi: “She didn’t tell me anything about her process, she didn’t tell me anything.”

“She basically just said, ‘I have someone you can meet. Good luck.’ Because I think you have to let people have their own process.”

Meyer said she “hit the jackpot of ex-husbands” with Maguire, adding that the couple were still “best friends” four years after their divorce.

They have a daughter, Ruby, 18, and a son, Otis, 15.

Meyer recently denied rumors that the Spider-Man actor was in a romance with model Lily Chee, who is almost thirty years his junior.

A Reddit thread posted on Sunday titled “Jen Meyer defends ex-husband Tobey Maguire” included a comment from Meyer denying any romantic connection between Maguire and Chee, according to People.

Meyer addressed reports that Maguire and Chee had been linked after the two were photographed together at an exclusive Fourth of July party, known as the “White Party,” in the Hamptons in New York hosted by billionaire Michael Rubin.

The Reddit thread included a screenshot from Instagram sent to an account of Meyer’s Los Angeles-based jewelry company under the handle @jenmeyerjewelry.

One user reportedly asked Meyer with three skull emojis: “Why is your ex-husband fucking someone three years older than your daughter?”

A reply from the account @jenmeyerjewelry said: “I don’t usually respond to this kind of nonsense but he was kind enough to help a friend to her car. He was a nice guy.”

Maguire and Meyer married in Kona, Hawaii in 2007 and announced their separation nine years later, in 2016.
